Jake Jacobs, who was an outfielder for the Washington Senators in 1970 and the Minnesota Twins in 1971, passed away on July 26 at the age of 73. His death was not reported until relatively recently.

Jacobs began his professional career in 1959, playing for the Sanford Greyhounds in the Florida State League—he had a solid season that year, hitting .313. 1960 was also successful for the 23-year-old Jacobs, who hit .284 in 138 games for the South Atlantic League’s Charlotte Hornets. He earned a small cup-of-coffee at the big league level with the Senators that season, appearing in six games.

He spent most of the 1961 season in the minor leagues as well, though once again he was promoted to the majors for a short time, hitting .250 in eight at-bats with the Twins. Though he did not appear in the majors after the 1961 season, he played in the minor leagues until 1963, retiring at the age of 26. He hit .277 at that level.
