Colvin was stabbed with the sharp end of a teammates broken bat on Sunday afternoon.
Catcher Welington Castillo broke his bat on a swing, the barrel of the bat flew down the third base line where Tyler Colvin was running towards the plate and the sharp end went into Colvin’s chest and fell back to the ground as Colvin went towards the plate.
Colvin went to the hospital and will remain there for a few days for observation, he is in stable condition. An X-Ray on his chest showed a structure in the wound. The hospital has inserted a chest tube to prevent Colvin’s lungs from collapsing.
Colvin was hitting .254 with 20 HRs and 56 RBI’s this season as a rookie.
