Fourth Actor Injured on Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark

News

From My Fox NY.com:

An actor in Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark is in stable condition on Tuesday morning after he fell 30-feet during a live performance in front of a preview audience at Broadway’s Foxwoods Theater. Rescue personnel rushed to the theatre at around 10:45 p.m. on Monday. It was unclear which actor was involved in the accident. A male, 31-year-old actor was taken to Bellevue Hospital with minor injuries, according to the Associated Press. Reeve Carney is the lead actor in the production, but it was not clear if he fell, an understudy fell or if a stunt-man fell.

Cell phone footage of the incident shows a cable snapping followed by the actor falling into the pit in front of the stage. “We see spiderman stumble over the ledge. You heard a scream, silence and then someone screamed ‘someone call 911.’ We immediately understood that something was wrong. Everybody was very concerned for the actor. Hopefully he recovers soon,” Marianna Leung, an audience member, told Good Day New York on Tuesday .

It’s the fourth time an actor has been hurt in connection with the most expensive show in Broadway history. The show’s official launch has been pushed back to February because of continuing problems with the production.

Natalie Mendoza, who plays Arachne, was hit on the head by a rope at the first preview. The actress was diagnosed with a concussion and was out of the show for a week.

Kevin Aubin, an aerialist, broke both his wrists in November during a presentation for ticket agents. In a separate incident while rehearsing the show, another actor broke his foot.

Skitch Commentary: I admire that they are trying to do something vastly different here, but the cost has skyrocketed, delays keep piling on, and now we’ve had four different actors injured. I really think they need to cut their losses on this one before someone gets killed.

Pretty much at this point, they are on the path to be the Broadway version of Waterworld. And this is from a guy who used to run a Waterworld fansite, so I know what I’m talking about.
