American Idol 2011 Spoilers: Judges Reveal Details About New Season; Will Steven Tyler Be The New Simon Cowell?

News, Spoilers

The new American Idol judging panel (+ Randy Jackson) met the media today and finally opened up about the most highly-anticipated season of the series.

Steven Tyler said that “Idol is taking it up a notch. No more, no less.”

Randy Jackson welcomed the new judges with open arms. “We’ve got the rock legend, we’ve got the triple threat…. We’re gonna be good,” he said with a nod to newcomers Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez.

Lopez admitted that the job has kept her on her toes. “It’s more fun that I thought it’d be,” she said.

As for who the mean judge will be to replace the departed Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson took the safe route and said that it would be a hybrid combination of all three. “You hear that from all three of us. If [a performance] is terrible, it’s terrible,” he said. Jennifer Lopez agreed and said the fact that all of the judges are artists themselves, they bring a “different perspective.”

Producer Nigel Lythgoe talked about the “Vegas round” per se this season. Although the contestants did make a road trip to Sin City, it was strictly to get a bit of Love — to check out The Beatles show at the Mirage. From there, they were asked to learn a Beatles song in one night.
