Anne Hathaway Wins Role of Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, Tom Hardy To Portray The Villain Bane

Casting News, News

Warner Bros. Pictures has announced today that Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan’s much-anticipated sequel The Dark Knight Rises. Just a week ago it was revealed that a number of actresses, including Keira Knightley, Jessica Biel and Kata Mara, were doing screen tests for two roles: a love interest and a villain.

Regarding the casting decision Nolan stated that he is “thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.”

It has also been known that Tom Hardy, who previously worked with Nolan on Inception, would be in the film but his character was unknown. Today it was announced that he will play Bane who, if you are familiar with comics broke Batman’s back in the “Knightfall” story arc.

Two very big announcements to be sure.

Again, Christopher Nolan directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with brother Jonathan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer.

The Dark Knight Rises is slated for release on July 20, 2012.
