Strikeforce Targeting April Date in Japan for Heavyweight Grand Prix

We already know that Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem will be facing Fabricio Werdum in the second set of quarterfinal bouts for Strikeforce’s Heavyweight Grand Prix. In a report at ESPN.com, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker confirmed on Thursday that they are targeting an April 9th date for Overeem/Werdum and Brett Rogers vs. Josh Barnett and a title defense by Strikeforce Lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez as well.

Strikeforce’s first quarterfinal bouts will take place February 12th from the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, NJ. Fedor Emelianenko faces Antonio Silva in the main event of the evening, with Andrei Arlovski squaring off against Sergei Kharitonov.
