Nick Diaz No Longer Boxing, May Coach The Ultimate Fighter Against GSP

News

In a stunning development, the boxing promoter that had been working with Nick Diaz has announced that the Strikeforce Welterweight Champion has decided against pursuing his ‘ambition’ to box against former IBF Super Middleweight Champion Jeff Lacey in the fall. Don Chargin confirmed in a press release that Diaz has decided that it’s in his “best interest to focus on his primary combat sport and profession”.

Intriguingly Chargin mentioned that Diaz was about to recieve the “opportunity of a lifetime”, surely a clear reference to the possibility of the Stockton fighter being one half of a title unification match with UFC Champion Georges St. Pierre. Dana White tried to dampen down the expectation that the fight was already made, telling MMA Junkie that “We will see…there are still a lot of hurdles”. However it increasingly looks like Diaz’s bold threat to step into the boxing ring has gotten him the money fight he always wanted. Indeed according to Dave Meltzer he may wind up starring alongside Georges St. Pierre on The Ultimate Fighter 14.
