Shinya Aoki vs. Eddie Alvarez Verbally Agreed For Bellator Bout

News

One of the biggest fights in terms of quality outside the UFC & Strikeforce now would be a champion vs. champion clash of Dream and Bellator lightweights Shinya Aoki and Eddie Alvarez respectively. Bloody Elbow is confirming that both fighters have agreed to the rematch.

few months after his DREAM.17 bout this September, Shinya Aoki, who has moved his training camp out of Japan and into the Evolve MMA gym in Singapore, is likely to fight outside of Asia once again. Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez has been asking for a rematch against Aoki for quite some time now, and it looks like he’s finally going to get his request.

This would be a rematch of on a New Year’s Eve show almost three years ago that Aoki won in 92 seconds via submission. This time will be different, however. Verbal agreements from DREAM and Bellator, along with both Aoki and Alvarez, are in place for the fight to take place in Bellator. It’s not finalized, yet, but the Bellator lightweight championship that Alvarez holds is likely to be defended in what appears to be set for sometime in 2012.
