It’s been more than a decade since the UFC held an event in Japan. December 21, 1997 was the date of UFC Japan and the UFC hasn’t been back since. That’ll change February 26, 2012, as the UFC will return in a big way to the Land of the Rising Sun.
UFC President Dana White and Zuffa LLC Asia Executive Vice President and Managing Director Mark Fischer made the announcement on Tuesday at the Shinjuku Wald 9 Theater, revealing that the world’s leading MMA promotion will head to the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. It’s unknown how big of an event it will be, as even Fischer didn’t know.
“We’re not identifying that today but it will be, you can be assured, a major, major event here,” Fischer stated.
Saitama Super Arena was the home of Pride and is and currently home to DREAM.
