It’s actually very possible that we’ve seen the genesis towards a creation of a new Scarlet Spider. For those who may not know, the identity was formerly used by Ben Reilly, a clone of Peter Parker, who has been dead for a long, long time. Every so often Marvel dusts off some part of the look and uses it somewhere, and in this case, they’ve shown more than one teaser featuring the familiar blue hoody.
So why does this matter? Well, the new Tarantula that has been working for the Jackal is another Spider-Clone named Kaine, who is actually the first one. During a fight with Spider-Man he is dumped into a vat of what was once Anti-Venom, and is now a cure for Spider-Island.
Coming out of the vat, Kaine is no longer mutated into a nasty Spider, in fact, he doesn’t even bear the familiar scars that separated him from Peter and Ben. He does, however, still have his powers.
So Kaine is now a perfect clone of Peter Parker, one who spent much of his life doing horrible and awful things to his ‘brother’ Ben. He’s also my favorite pick for the new Scarlet Spider, or even to take Ben Reilly’s name for his own.
