Oh Fifth week! The bane and boon of my existence. I hate not having much to read this week, but it definitely helps my comic budget recover. I usually budget around $35-$40 a week for comics, and the last few months, I tend to exceed or come close to exceeding that a lot more than I’d like to admit. This week? $18 in comics. SWEET!!! -$4 for the print version of Batman Beyond Unlimited is insane. Granted, I paid that buying them weekly as digital comics, but a dollar a week seems less painful to my wallet than four bucks at once.

Grey Commentary – Amazing Spidey…you know what, I shouldn’t have to sell this. This is one of the top three books Marvel puts out, and you should just be reading it.
– FF, on the other hand, seems to finally have an artist that doesn’t make my eyes bleed, and not a moment too soon!
Skitch Commentary – Amazing Spider-Man is heading towards a long awaited showdown between Spidey and the Sinister Six. Can’t wait to see what happens here!
– Ultimate X-Men has had two big reveals at the end of each of the last two issues. Who else is coming back to life?
– Venom #13.4? That is just about the most ridiculous numbering scheme I’ve heard of. I am the first person to say that I don’t care about renumbering, but things like this just seem like ways to chase readers away from comics.
Grey – The thing about Venom is that this weekly .whatever crossover sounds like a price gouge, and really, it’s hard to say that it’s not. But this was originally a crossover across 4 books, but then two of them got canned. I guess Marvel just didn’t want them to sit in stock (especially since last weeks Secret Avengers directly referenced them).
Skitch – Still seems odd to me. To me, it would have been just as easy to number them Venom 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17. The Point One issues should be jump on points. It’s not even an issue of them being weekly, Amazing Spider-Man is close to weekly and Marvel has a bunch of series that come out twice a month. Just seems to me like something that would confuse readers, and that should always be avoided.
Grey – The alternative, to me, is that they would have wound up releasing five issues of Venom in five weeks and we would have gone from 13 to 17 in the span of one month since they had the next arc ready to begin in March in order to compensate for the lack of a crossover. Personally, I would have done one or two oversized issues to contain all of it. It’s really just poor planning that they’ve shown themselves ready and willing to be capable of in the past. They cancel books while still intending to do crossovers between them and non-cancelled books.
