One could argue that World Wrestling Entertainment is running out of ideas for DVD/Blu-ray titles. The countdown structure as seen on OMG! and most recently The 50 Greatest Finishing Moves in WWE History is not very practical given the circumstances, but WWE has had some strong compilation titles this year including ECW Unreleased Vol. 1 and the forthcoming CM Punk: Best in the World.
Late this afternoon, Joey Styles tweeted that WWE.com has posted the schedule for WWE’s 2013 slate of DVD/Blu-ray releases.
Among the non-PPV highlights is another volume of Best of Nitro and ECW Unreleased Vol. 2, biography docs for Triple H and another on Mick Foley. Fans of Bret Hart will be pleased that he will get another DVD this time having his own “Unreleased Matches” compilation like Hulk Hogan. (Hopefully, when Ric Flair comes back to WWE they will produce an “Unreleased Matches” compilation for him.) To go along with its Ladder Match collections, WWE is prepping a Money in the Bank Anthology.
Finally, fans of the NWA concept WARGAMES: The Match Beyond will be pleased to know that a Best of WarGames is forthcoming. Up until now, only three WarGames have been featured as DVD extras on WWE DVDs. They include the 11th WarGames match, taped during NWA Great American Bash houseshows in 1988, the 18th Wargames match (at WrestleWar 1991), and the nWo vs. WCW from Fall Brawl 1996. The 1988 match was included on Ric Flair and the Four Horsemen. WrestleWar 1991 can be found on Brian Pillman: Loose Cannon. And the WarGames pitting the nWo vs. WCW was an extra on the old NWO: New World Order DVD release.
