No Rest For The Wicked; ‘Jacare’ Souza Continues To Train In Case He Has To Fill In For Belfort Or Weidman At UFC 181

Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza doesn’t like to rest on his laurels.

Less than week after his dominating win over former Strikeforce titleholder Gegard Mousasi, Souza is getting ready to go back to the gym and complete a two-month training camp, just in case he is called upon to fill for either UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman or challenger Vitor Belfort before their fight in December at UFC 181.

“Our plan A is to be the UFC’s plan B,” Souza’s manager Gilberto Faria said on yesterday’s edition of UFC Tonight.

While Souza is now ahead of Belfort in the UFC rankings, Dana White said that because of scheduling, “Jacare” would likely need another fight before receiving a title shot.

“You can say [Souza] is next in line for a title,” White said on FOX Sports 1. “(But) somebody’s already next in line for the title. … So it depends on when this thing happens, what goes down, what happens with Chris Weidman. It’s tough to say, yeah he’s getting a title shot when there’s already a title shot in line.”
