Here is a quick look at some highlights on the shelves this week. I’ve also included a list of Trade Paperbacks and Hard Cover Editions if you’re looking for some extra stories. This is the last New Comic Book Day of the year, and there are just a few things to look at, so without further ado let’s dive in…

New This Week:

Obi Wan and Anakin 1Obi-Wan & Anakin #1 – Fresh from his take on Lando, Charles Soule returns to Star Wars for this mini-series! This tale seemingly takes place in between Episodes I & II, as Obi-Wan has already promised to train Anakin, but he’s not ready for the trials just yet. Should be another interesting addition to this ever-expanding Marvel/Star Wars universe!

Injustice: Gods Among Us, Year Four Annual #1 – Things really started heating up this year, and there is no indication of the action slowing any time soon with Year Five, which is said to be the last Year, about begin. I wasn’t too keen on where the story was at when Brian Buccellato took over writing, but he’s really brought it back to the intensity, epic-ness, and humanity of the first couple Years. I also like the way these Annuals are used as a bridge in between Years, like a “here’s some exposition to get us through the action of point A and point B”. Should be a heckuva ride coming up. This is not a good point to jump in, but I highly recommend checking out the entire series, easily one of the best DC books in recent years.

Lobster Johnson The Glass Mantis 1Lobster Johnson: The Glass Mantis #1 (One-Shot) – Like many stories in the Mignola-verse, prior reading is not necessarily required, as I’ve found in the other recent Lobster Johnson one-shots. All you really need to know is Lobster Johnson’s desire to seek his brand of justice, like Batman but willing to kill, but with a special class only Mignola can bring.

Rocket Raccoon and Groot #1 – If you read Rocket’s last series, you know what Skottie Young can bring to the character. Now, this series acts as a reunion for writer Young and artist Filipe Andrade as well as Rocket & Groot reteaming since their respective solo titles ended.

A few other issues to look forward to: Multiversity #1 & #2 Director’s Cut, Deadpool & Cable: Split Second #1, Code Pru #1, Dreaming Eagles #1

Collected Editions:

Superman: Doomed TPB (new this week)

Superman Kryptonite TPBSuperman: Kryptonite TPB – Kind of an obscure story from a series that didn’t last very long, but it’s worth the time if only for the creative team. Masters Darwyn Cooke and Tim Sale tell the story of Superman’s first encounter with Kryptonite!

Green Arrow by Jeff Lemire HC (new this week) – Arguably the best run of the New 52 Green Arrow so far, Lemire and Sorrentino shined a new light to this beloved character, adding layers of mythos and intrigue. This collection includes Green Arrow#17-34, Secret Origins #4, and Green Arrow: Future’s End #1.

Trillium TPB

Squarriors TPB (new this week) – Squirrel Warriors. ‘Nuf said.

Ghost Racers TPB (new this week)
