DC Comics Universe and DC’s Year Of The Villain: The Joker #1 Spoilers and Review follows.

A Homicidally and Horrifically Insane Issue Written By Iconic Creator and Director John Carpenter!

The villain Condiment King is back…

…crosses paths with THE villain in Gotham City the Joker…

…and understandably gets the short end of that exchange; as reward of downing Condiment King, Joker request a Batman and Robin Halloween costume from the store!

Then we get a new dynamic duo…

…scenes reminiscent of iconic moments in Batman lore like when he cradled Jason Todd Robin’s dead body after being killed by the Joker in Death in the Family, but…

…the Suicide Squad’s Enchantress will have none of it!

They outsmart and escape her and later Joker and his accomplice’s partnership explodes…

…at a diner because she paid for him; a polite gesture she learned from her mom!

That sends Joker off the deep end and he hunts his one-time partner down…

…but decides to take his anger out on her mother!

They we get a another nod to Death in the Family when the Joker beat Jason Todd Robin to death with a crowbar; still painful in 2019.

His own time partner survives, barely, as Joker leaves.

The Pulse:

A seemingly pointless issue that required the iconic writer to know nothing of modern DC Comics lore. All John Carpenter needed to know is who Batman and Robin are generally plus the events of 1988’s Death in the Family; that’s 31 years ago. The art was also not my liking, but suited this insane story. 5 out of 10.
