Troma celebrates 50 years of independent glory

For half a century, Troma has been a leader in the American independent films. They’ve created their own cinematic vibe over the years with films that get a bit grosser than the lame Hollywood films that only care about box office grosses. The studio is celebrating its major birthday with special screenings, a 4K UHD boxset of their biggest star and more ways to enjoy Troma movies at your house. Founder and director Lloyd Kaufman might be coming to your town to show The Toxic Avenger. Here’s the details from Troma:

Troma Entertainment, the beloved independent film distributor and production house, is excited to celebrate 50 years of independent cinema this year. 

Troma Entertainment, Inc. is the longest-running independent movie studio in North America. The Tox Box is a brand new 4K restoration of the entire Toxic Avenger series, housed in an 8 disc box set with hours of extras, special features, and commentary tracks, and includes a limited edition postcard. It will be available on August 29th, and is currently up for pre-order on Amazon

Retroware Games is developing a retro beat-em-up video game based on the cult classic Toxic Crusaders series. It is set to release in 2024, and a demo is currently playable on Steam

Troma has partnered with Alamo Drafthouse to present the new 4K transfer of The Toxic Avenger in theaters around the United States. Select screenings will be accompanied by appearances by Lloyd Kaufman as well as Toxic Avenger cosplayers, tromettes, and a raft of merchandise giveaways and contests.

Throughout its 50 year history, Troma has pushed the boundaries of independent cinema, inspiring countless filmmakers, and kickstarting the careers of bold new voices like James GunnTrey Parker, and Eli Roth. Troma’s massive film catalogue can be streamed on its very own subscription-based service, Troma Now. Many titles are also available on Peacock, Amazon Prime, Freevee, Tubi, Shudder, and more.
