Jolly good, Colin Firth. Having starred in The Railway Man alongside Nicole Kidman, the Oscar winner will deliver a pair of distinctly unique performances later this year in Magic in the Moonlight and Kingsmen: The Secret Service. One is a charming comedy, the other is action-oriented.
The first to arrive is Woody Allen’s Magic in the Moonlight (opening July 25th). In the film Firth plays a man who is tasked with trying to debunk the work of a spiritualist (Emma Stone). From the looks of it, it would seem that Allen is on autopilot, much like he was with You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger some years back.
This next trailer looks a bit more promising. Maybe it’s because it’s from the same guy that gave us Stardust, and X-Men: First Class. Matthew Vaughn, who also adapted Mark Millar’s comic Kick-Ass, is again adapting another Millar work. This time it is Kingsman: The Secret Service (opening October 24th). The movie tells the story of a super-secret British spy organization that recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into the agency’s ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius. So it’s like James Bond meets Oliver Twist.
Colin Firth stars and he’s joined by Michael Caine and Samuel L. Jackson.
