News, Top Story

DC Comics Rebirth and Dark Nights Metal Spoilers for Dark Nights Metal #1 follows.

It’s been a big week for Dark Nights Metal #1 with:

    • A Batman V Superman moment in Dark Nights Metal #1 / Dark Nights Metal #2 (spoilers here) getting social media buzz; and
    • News that Dark Nights Metal #1 pages leak reveals two (2) pretty big DC Comics Rebirth debuts (spoilers here); one (1) debut will be as big, controversial and impactful as The Watchmen reveal at the end of DC Universe Rebirth #1 that leads to Fall 2017’s Doomsday Clock in Fall 2017.

This all build from:

    • Dark Days: The Forge #1 (spoilers here);
    • Dark Days: The Casting #1 (spoilers here); and
    • Seemingly Detective Comics #950 as well as Nightwing #17 (spoilers here) are all part of the Dark Days: The Road to Metal along with Dark Days: The Casting #1.

On top of that, we also got a look at 25 different covers for Dark Nights: Metal #1 (spoilers here).

Anyhow, the interiors for Dark Nights Metal #1 are illuminating.

Interestingly, based on the below, 18 of the 32 pages of Dark Nights: Metal #1 has been released by DC Comics in one form or another. That means over 56% of a $4.99 comic book is available for free before the book hits stands. That’s not a criticism per se, but more a lament of the current state of public relations hype most of the medium and big publishers engage in.

Anyhow, first, the four (4) pages of Dark Nights: Metal #1 that DC Comics directly leaked to the Washington Post.

Batman stole a large piece of Nth Metal to explore.

We get the name of, supposedly, the main villain and ruler of the Dark Multiverse: Barbatos. According to wiki:

In demonology, Barbatos is an earl and duke of Hell, ruling thirty legions of demons and has four kings as his companions to command his legions. He can speak to animals, can tell the future, conciliates friends and rulers, and can lead men to treasure hidden by the enchantment of magicians.

His name derives from Latin barbatus, meaning “bearded, old man of the demon of hell, philosopher”.

He is the 8th demon in The Lesser Key of Solomon, while Pseudomonarchia Daemonum lists him as the 6th demon. He is also mentioned in Grand Grimoire as subordinate of Satanachia.

Interlude

Could the hooded figure at the end of Dark Days: The Casting #1 be Barbatos?

End Interlude.

We also learn that Batman also has Carter Hall’s, Hawkman of olde, journal and that may, in part, have been why…

…his grandson, Daniel Hall aka Dream aka the Sandman, leaps from Vertigo to DC Rebirth! More on how that makes sense and came to be is HERE.

On top of that, CBR has a few interiors.

However, only seven (7) of the pages are consequential.

We also have a further number of interiors.

The Justice League as gladiators fighting for Mongul.

Mongul stirring the crowd with a boy to his side; is that Billy Batson aka Shazam / Captain Marvel or someone else?

Then, we’re on Earth at Challengers Mountain home of the original Challangers of the Unknown – for a two (2) pages spread – and…

…current home to the New Challengers of the Dark Matter imprint.

Lots of memorabilia showing the past of DC Rebirth with Will Payton Starman, Red Tornado alongside the original Challengers of the Unknown and Doc Magnus with the Metal Men.

We also have a preserved Red Tornado under glass and the Multiversity map of the DC Multiverse. Is the Dark Multiverse on the back?

Here’s your Dark Nights: Metal checklist.

So, have these teaser and preview pages intrigued you enough to pick up the issue?
