RVD Contract Update, ECW Star Angry, Another in Rehab & More

News

Accoding to Dave Meltzer, in the April 23 edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter – (click here for subscription information), Rene Dupree is in rehab, and the idea of adding Tag Titles to ECW hasn’t gone anywhere since the La Resistance reunion was dropped.

Meltzer is also reporting that ECW’s being booked pretty much day-to-day, without much long-term direction given to Lagana from Vince. This was the case with Heyman also, but Lagana is said to not fight Vince as hard as Paul did.

On CM Punk, when discussing the 4/17 ECW tapings, Meltzer says that he “is clearly not only out of the doghouse now, but being groomed as the No. 1 star of the promotion on television.”

In the April 17 Observer, it was reported that Stephanie McMahon presented the idea of the ECW Originals beating the New Breed at Mania, but didn’t want RVD to get the pin. Vince disagreed (and won, of course) due to RVD being the biggest star in the match. WWE is confident RVD is re-signing due to his earning potential with the company being better than the competition, but no deal has been signed yet. One idea is for RVD to take a leave of absence to “freshen up,” returning after a few months. According to Meltzer, RVD at one point felt terms had been agreed upon, including RVD making a guaranteed amount of money while taking time off, but again, nothing has been finalized yet.

Bob Holly was upset that he wasn’t pushed or even on the Mania card, as he was originally told he would be working with Lashley (before Lashley took over the spot thought to be Hogan’s in the Billionaires match). Holly feels Lagana lied to him, and there’s “a lot of blame going around,” according to Meltzer.
