Rob Cohen goes Medieval

Disc Announcements, News

Kurosawa first gave it to us as Seven Samurai, it was next delivered as The Magnificent Seven, now director Rob Cohen is working on a film of similar themes set in the Middle Ages called Medieval.

Cohen turned down the chance to direct XXX: The Return of Xander Cage with Vin Diesel to do the project which seems like a smart move to me.

Cohen studied anthropology and European history at Harvard. It was because of this that he said he was drawn to the project. Saying he looked forward to the opportunity to tap into the historical period and create a heightened reality with big action pieces. The script has been kept deep under wraps, but sources say the action brings together warriors from disparate cultures.

“It was a tough decision about XXX,” Cohen said. “I talked to Vin over the weekend and said I hoped they would wait, but that if they find another director who’s right for the sequel, I certainly wouldn’t be angry. But I could not let something like this go.”

Cohen said the aim is to get the picture into production by October.
