Smurfs Movie Gets Its Director

Raja Gosnell has been hired to direct Sony’s live-action/animated feature film Smurfs.

The film will be released in 3-D and 2-D formats on Dec. 17, 2010.

J. David Stem and David N. Weiss (Shrek 2, Jimmy Neutron) wrote the script and Audrey Wells (George of the Jungle) is doing a polish. The exact details of what this Big Screen take on the little blue people will entail is being kept under wraps.

Gosnell started his career as an editor, working on films such as Home Alone, Pretty Woman and Mrs. Doubtfire. His directorial debut was Home Alone 3 and he most recently delivered Beverly Hills Chihuahua (not to mention the live-action Scooby-Doo features).
