Sony debuts the teaser trailer for Salt, starring Angelina Jolie and arriving in theatres next July. Judging from the trailer she looks to have the same problem that Jason Bourne and Samantha Caine (The Long Kiss Goodnight) had. The teaser has some nice action-packed moments, but what’s with all the running? With facial prosthetics you get a Mission: Impossible vibe (no wonder Tom Cruise pulled out of the project), so it would seem that Salt is one big mash-up of past spy movies. Since it comes out on July 23, I’m more inclined to see a comedy starring Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd (Dinner for Schmucks), over this one.
Salt is the newest film by Australian filmmaker Phillip Noyce, who worked with Jolie previously on The Bone Collector. Noyce has also dabbled with espionage and intrigue with Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger, and a film adaptation of the TV series The Saint. The script was co-written by Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium, Street Kings, Law Abiding Citizen) and Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential, Mystic River, Taking of Pelham 123, Green Zone, Robin Hood). Sony is bringing Salt to theaters everywhere on July 23rd, 2010 next summer.
