1. WWE Raw Thoughts – The Raw Roster

Sheamus – Sheamus, who was initially pushed due to being Triple H’s workout buddy, has really grown into his role as a top heel. He’s just unlikable and the ‘net is coming to accept him. Unfortunately, the WWE is still gun-shy about giving him a huge win to put him over the top. Hopefully, this run is it. I still don’t think he deserves the push and that guys like Dolph Ziggler are every bit as good, but a new star and fresh programs are still worthwhile. He has come a lone way though. I mean seriously, remember this:

The Miz – Miz is an excellent talker and ever-improving worker. He has a shot at being a top guy one day, as fans really love to see him get his ass kicked. I can’t fathom why he isn’t in a long program with a veteran to try and get his game up to elite, though I guess that’s how they may view a house show circuit with Randy Orton.

The Hart Dynasty – DH is painfully bland, but Kidd really has something special going in the ring. He will likely never get DH’s push as a solo star thanks to not being a Hart by blood and being smaller, but he is more deserving. Without Bret, I’d be shocked if they kept the titles long.

John Cena – Cena as a challenger is already more compelling. I love the odds being stacked against him between Sheamus and the Nexus Rookies. The WWE has long loved putting him against all odds. Well, they finally actually figured out how to stack the deck against Cena and it’s his most compelling act in years. Also, I’m pretty sure his defending Bryan Danielson is entirely a work to finally get the smarks on his side. Well, congratulations, it’s working.

Randy Orton – I’m sure he isn’t healed up yet, which really sucks, as his momentum and work were in the process of making him the biggest star in the business. I keep thinking some time away and a big return would do him more good than it will the next guy…

Triple H – Usually, I’d be upset that Hunter is the guy to come back and crush all the new guys who have been getting over, but with Bryan Danielson fired and Wade Barrett without a Work Visa, the Nexus group is DOA and can stand to lose to Hunter. None of the rest are likely main eventers anyway.

Chris Jericho – Still the best, I’m glad they stuck him with Bourne before he got bored and stopped caring. He’d be a star anywhere, so it’s lucky he’s a wrestler.

Darren Young – The only rookie hurt by the Nexus, Young had a good story going with the Straight Edge Society, which is now dead. He’s a solid worker and it wouldn’t shock me if he found success when repackaged.

David Otunga – Really just needs to work with Finlay constantly on the road.

Edge – A true main event star, Edge is just immediately so much more compelling as a heel. He and Orton would have been huge without that injury to Randy, but as is, he could stand to move on away from Orton, letting Miz get that rub, while feuding with another top guy. Triple H, for example, will need a new foil he can’t just steamroll.

Evan Bourne – If they aren’t careful, they’re going to make the kid a star. He’s almost top notch in the ring right now and working Jericho will surely get him all the way there.

Ezekiel Jackson – He has potential and I hope he isn’t lost upon his return.

Goldust – Another guy, like Finlay, who should constantly work NXT rookies on house shows to teach them. He’s such a good hand, it’s a shame he’ll never get the credit he’s due for both his work and character.

Heath Slater – A great heel and terrible face, if tag teams still mattered he’d be perfect in one.

The USOs – The USOs haven’t shown me anything yet, though I loved the various Samoan teams of the past, so I hold out hope.

John Morrison – I’ve given up on him. He’s terrible with a live mic and can’t do a brawl, only the WWE main event guy style of choice, and get heat with it. He’ll be fine in the mid-card as a guy the ‘net thinks more should be done with for years, like Shelton Benjamin before him.

Justin Gabriel – High flying heels are rare, so I’m happy to see Gabriel so readily take to the role.

Mark Henry – Whatever improvements he made on ECW have kept him useful as the giant that can lose to make heels look dangerous.

Michael Tarver – Continues to grow on me. He seems real and potentially dangerous. If Nexus turns into Spirit Squad 2.0, he could be the group’s Ziggler.

Primo – He still sucks, but is better as a heel.

R-Truth – Hey, remember when he was NWA Champion? No one else does either. Doing flips and spins is not a substitute for below average work. Even RVD never got anywhere until he figured out basic psychology.

Santino Marella – He isn’t funny anymore. Turn him!

Kozlov – He and Santino as Steen and Generico is pretty much instant fail. Neither has the charisma or makes fans care enough to pull it off.

Skip Sheffield – I have a feeling he’ll be pushed as mini-Batista until someone (re: Hunter) realizes he isn’t that big and is still far too green. He has potential, but we’ll see if he’s allowed anywhere near reaching it.

Ted Dibiase – He appears to be stalling out, though the crap they have him feuding with is surely part of that. Cody Rhodes has certainly been faring better due to being on Smackdown and thus getting to seem more important.

The Great Khali – Sure, why not? He doesn’t do any damage and pops a crowd.

Wade Barrett – There could be no worse time for his Visa to expire. This could lead him down the Kenny Dykstra path of missed opportunity, though he might be too good to let that happen. I fail to see a major difference between Barrett and Sheamus, for the record.

William Regal – I want him in some kind of authority position so he can get a live mic more often. If not, at least pretend to push him so he can wrestle young guys and teach them as he taught Danielson.

Yoshi Tatsu – Yoshi has become Tajiri. Well, that’s fine, I suppose.

Zach Ryder – He should get the Miz’s spot when Miz is a main eventer. He lacks the Miz’s potential, but has all the tools to be an obnoxious mid-card heel for a long time:

2. WWE Smackdown Thoughts: The Smackdown Roster

Rey Mysterio – I covered him last week.

Kofi Kingston – This dude has great charisma and has become a great worker. There is no reason for him to not be a top guy, feuding with the likes of CM Punk for the World Title by the Royal Rumble. His mic work is top notch and he’s really over. I wonder how Kofi merchandise does? I’m sure that’s the last step to a major push.

Big Show – He seems to be having fun, but he was more interesting as the enforcer for smaller heels.

Chavo Guerrero – I’ve always felt he was overrated, but even he doesn’t deserve to be haunted by the fucking midget like this.

Chris Masters – He isn’t going to improve at this point and unless Lance Cade is really that into drugs, I have no idea why he’s employed and Cade isn’t.

Christian – Couldn’t be more of a top guy; he’s Jericho without ever getting that top run to put him over as a main eventer. It’s probably too late for that run now, but he’s easily on the level of guys like Jake Roberts who peaked right before the Title and were never given that last bit of push. Still, I wonder if he wasn’t better used in TNA.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdWnaIAygdE&feature=PlayList&p=ED779C1CEA548187&playnext_from=PL&playnext=1&index=13

CM Punk – Love the mask, love SES, love everything about his current run. Punk is a top guy and probably the current most versatile man in the business with only really Christian for competition since Shawn Michaels retired.

Cody Rhodes – He’s going to be a top guy. I told you so.

Curt Hawkins and Vance Archer – Hawkins is good, Archer is not, which is the formula for big-man little man teams, I suppose, even if the difference between these two isn’t as pronounced.

The Dudebuster – Suffer from the Hart Dynasty rarely doing both shows, but are a top notch team that would have meant a lot more two decades ago.

Dolph Ziggler – One of my favorites in the WWE. A Christian feud is a good start, but that his push went to Drew McIntyre is absolutely ridiculous. Drew never did half of what Ziggler did with far more opportunity.

Drew McIntyre – I like Drew, but it’s time to cut the cord for awhile Whatever he’s done simply hasn’t worked for whatever reason, as he was surely hurt by Sheamus doing the same gimmick with more success on Raw. Perhaps a return in 6-months when Sheamus has no feud to attack him and turn face would work?

Finlay – The on-the-job-trainer.

Jack Swagger – He’s not going to be Kurt Angle or Brock Lesnar; he isn’t that good. He might work out to be a nice upper-card heel regardless though. He won’t carry a brand, but he’s a guy who works with a guy who makes money and there’s no shame in that.

JTG – Lost without Cryme Tyme.

Kane – He’s compelling for now, but really doesn’t need to be the guy who attacked Undertaker. I have no clue who should be the guy at this point, just not Kane. Please.

Luke Gallows – He’s a fine enforcer now, who will obviously eventually turn on CM Punk. When he does, how he does will determine his future. He can be Kane, but is more likely Albert.

Matt Hardy – Still not good, still a shill for himself, still a tool. I hope he goes to TNA soon.

MVP – He’s just better on Smackdown, though it seems he’ll never regain his form as a potential main event star. Of everyone on Smackdown, he’d benefit most from working with Finlay long-term.

Shad – Misses Cryme Tyme more than JTG. He’s already irrelevant.

Tyler Reks – Much to Grut’s chagrin, is still employed.

The Undertaker – Should take extra time off past Summerslam so his return can be new and different. I’d actually prefer him killing the NXT Nexus to Triple H doing it. Guys can survive being squashed by Taker since he’s such a force, while H doing it just means mid-card for life.

3. TNA Thoughts – The TNA Roster

Rob Van Dam – We’re going to see if RVD is more about TNA or himself. If he joins the ECW group, that’s the only way that could matter without Paul Heyman coming in, as the rest of those guys are too old to be relevant. Of course, this would hurt his RVD brand and self-congratulating, so we’ll see.

Rob Terry – He’s terrible and with Morgan and Hernandez on the roster, has no reason to be as pushed as he is.

Doug Williams – He’s past his prime, but is finally doing the X-Division gimmick everyone’s been waiting years for. Current TNA booking has been so inept as to neuter that, but he’s doing great in a great gimmick, even if it is falling short of potential.

Abyss – I really prefer Abyss as a heel, but this is all so predictable and bland it’s hard to care. They ruined Abyss.

AJ Styles – Why doesn’t TNA just push him like a mini-Cena? He’s over as can be with the audience, he can cut a fine generic face promo, and can tear it down against anyone when fighting against impossible odds. Run with it! Like Abyss, he’s probably ruined.

Amazing Red – He’ll never be what he was before the knee injuries, but he’s a fun worker and worthy of the spotmonkey spot on the roster. What more do you need from him, really?

The Motor City Machine Guns – Talk to me after they get their Tag Title run. Until then, there’s nothing new to say.

Brian Kendrick – He’s getting a huge push and, for the first time in his career, I’m not in love with his work. Something just seems to be missing since his WWE release, even on the indies. Is it just me?

The Pope – He needs to work with a veteran to get there in the ring, because his mic skills and athleticism are already elite. Kurt Angle and his rushed matches are not the ones to elevate Pope, though that seems to be TNA’s current idea.

Desmond Wolfe – Wolfe is quickly becoming a JTTS because when you’re TNA, the guy the fans want to see on top should clearly never win again. He’s an excellent worker and probably the best at getting heat they have. He’s TNA’s CM Punk.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hO5wB898XVo

Dr. Stevie, Raven, Tommy Dreamer, Rhino – They’re so old I have no idea how this could work out to be compelling beyond the return of the grievous bodily harm division that no one demanded.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpgSNvD0Vac

Eric Young – TNA’s Matt Hardy. He isn’t any good and keeps being pushed.

Generation Me – They’re already lost in the shuffle. It’s a shame; they’re actually better cocky heels than they are at being the fake Rockers.

Hernandez – He’s got potential, but TNA is doing everything they can to make him just another guy. His Morgan feud will be good, but this is a guy that needs practice with top in-ring wrestlers, not Morgan. AJ Styles vs. Hernandez would have worked, so let’s see if they can transition to something like that.

Homicide – Alternately, bring back LAX. Let them work as a sometimes tag team and they’ll be immediate draws again.

Hulk Hogan – He’s been terrible. I can’t wait for him to destroy Abyss so he can hopefully go away again.

Beer Money, Inc – I still don’t know why TNA randomly turned them heel again. They were so over that it defied reason. A long feud with MCMG without interference will make it worthwhile, though.

Jay Lethal – The only thing TNA is doing right right now.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZrpkIR79SU&feature=PlayList&p=43C7E7955275A78E&playnext_from=PL&playnext=1&index=51

Jeff Hardy – Who in the hell thought it’d be a good idea to have Jeff Hardy be RVD’s little buddy? Did no one in TNA watch Smackdown where he was the man for about a year? Of everyone and everything in TNA that annoys me, this is the worst.

Jeff Jarrett – In WWE, he’d be little more than Finlay or Goldust. In TNA, he’s feuding with Sting in a re-hash of the late 90s. Are we not seeing a problem here?

Inc Ink – They’re terrible and I’m pretty ready for them to go away. They can, however, put Generation Me over on their way out. Neal needs more training and Moore was never acceptable, so just move on.

Kazarian – The poor man’s AJ Styles gets a role as… the poor man’s AJ Styles. Perfect.

Kevin Nash – Manager or color commentator now please. Let Taz go with the ECW crew and transition in Nash.

Kiyoshi – Is he still with TNA? He wasn’t bad, just utterly wasted.

Kurt Angle – Really needs to be forcibly away from the business to heal, but can’t seem to. I like him better as a face, where his no selling and rushed style at least fit in with the match flow and make greatness more likely. He’s so hit or miss in TNA, I’m always confused about what to expect. He was far better with WWE agents helping him structure.

Magnus – He isn’t good and has no role.

Matt Morgan – Smarks despise him, especially at the Mango, and while I’m not entertained by him, every non- internet fan I know finds him incredibly entertaining. He just works as a giant jerk heel and the royal “we” is a great little touch. Still, he could use more of this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5F5hVoqIlk

Mr. Anderson – He’s finally healthy enough to be shaking off the ring rust, leaving him merely below average in the ring instead of terrible. I’m really happy he wasn’t Vince McMahon’s son, as I just don’t think he’s very good, despite a cute gimmick with the mic and an annoying catchphrase the marks adore.

Orlando Jordan – He’s terrible. I have no idea why he has a job with TNA while Haas and Benjamin don’t… or hell, why anyone else WWE released doesn’t. He’s bottom of the heap, particularly with his obnoxious gimmick, and trust me, that isn’t because of the homosexuality.

Ric Flair – I love his Jay Lethal stuff so he gets a pass… for now.

Samoa Joe – Still the guy in the company fans care most about. He and RVD could tear the house down. He could draw with Jeff Hardy, as well. All he needs is the ball- he has been primed to run with it for years.

Sting – The guy who came in to help the next generation sure does spend a lot of time working with Hulk Hogan and Jeff Jarrett. I’m just sayin’ is all…

Team 3-D – Let’s move on before they weigh the column down. Get it? It’s a fat joke. Because they’re… whatever… let’s move on.

4. WWE NXT Thoughts: The NXT Roster

Alex Riley – He feels generic, but he’s getting a response. I wonder where we’ll be in six months when he, Miz and Zach Ryder are all competing for the exact same spot.

Eli Cottonwood – Something about him intrigues me. He’s big and weird and actually seems dangerous. I like that. All he has to do is be better than Khali and we’re all good!

Husky Harris – I still can’t get past his goofy facial expressions.

KavalIvan wins the Kaval ideas with him being LayCool’s Ninja.

Lucky Cannon – This guy has yet to show me anything to make him stand out. He could disappear now and I doubt I’d notice. He’ll be our first elimination.

Michael McGuillicuty – I really like Joe Hennig so far. He’s got the most confidence and presence on the mic and seems to know what he’s doing in the ring. He’s athletic and big. I would love to see him get a real push and he’s my current pick to win NXT.

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=4DF4C82286DFCB07&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&v=3sffqI1QTqM

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=4DF4C82286DFCB07&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&v=NM6AWblwlcs

Percy Watson – My dark horse to win this. He’s over already and while I don’t know why, I can at least appreciate that he’s got “it.” Let’s see if he can work that into something good, because they’re nothing special about him besides.

Titus O’Neil – The ‘net hates him, but I think he’s got something. He’s an athlete who’s figuring it out on the fly. Hey, he’s already better than Mongo, right?

5. ROH Thoughts – The ROH Roster

Tyler Black – He still isn’t as over as you’d want the world champion to be and while booking surely has its flaws, some of that has to fall on his head. I like Tyler, but we all thought he’d be the next AJ Styles or CM Punk and that doesn’t seem to be happening.

Austin Aries – I adore his character, really, I do, but his ring-work is so inconsistent nowadays that I’m not sure the tradeoff is worth it.

The Briscoes – Their act is stale in ROH, so hopefully the WWE rumors are true so we can see them finally adapt.

Kevin Steen – Holy crap, when I disliked his face singles push against Nigel McGuinness (it feels good to type that name again), I had no idea this was what was in store when he turned heel. He’s phenomenal and now someone I wouldn’t mind seeing dethrone Tyler. The heat that prick gets is awesome.

El Generico – One of the best wrestlers on the roster, he’s the guy most ROH fans not like, but genuinely care about. As such, he’ll always be near the top of the card and it’s well deserved.

Necro Butcher – Necro is just a mess. He should be scaled back and used as a special attraction again, because too much Necro is just a mess.

Roderick Strong – Roderick is excellent in ring and I truly hope he’s ready to be a heel, because if he is, he’s ready for the big time. I get why WWE doesn’t use managers, but how about TNA? Roderick with Flair would be gold.

Colt Cabana – I like him as Generico’s new, nicer big buddy, and look forward to him turning on Generico. As a serious heel, he could have new life as a character. As is, he’s ROH for life.

Claudio Castagnoli – He’s excellent and Jake Ziegler thinks he’s the best thing going in ROH today. While I disagree (I think it’s this next guy), it’s hard to argue WWE dropped the ball when they didn’t sign him. He’s superb and more athletic than a guy his size should be. And he gets it in the ring. He makes fans care.

Chris Hero – He’s the best heel in ROH barring maybe Steen, getting the best reactions in the Desmond Wolfe, CM Punk role. Of course, he could revolutionize the indies if he kept his bad attitude and style, but re-added the flippiness of his early ROH run. As a face, that character could draw like hasn’t been seen since Danielson was trying to dethrone Morishima.

Davey Richards – Needs to go face already. The fans cheer him anyway, so why bother with the pretense of being a heel? The American Wolves vs. The Kings of Wrestling now please.

Eddie Edwards – Has come into his own and should own the Roderick Strong role if Roderick is elevated. I look forward to his matches.

Steve Corino – Looks the best he has in years. If WWE picked him up after ECW folded, he’d be a main event guy by now. Wrestling isn’t fair sometimes.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdAV_A-uQlY

Joey Ryan – Doesn’t need to be in ROH with Aries running the same basic gimmick.

Erick Stevens – I’ve been a fan of his since day one and really like his heel work. His slow elevation should continue until he’s ready to be a top guy. I’d love him teaming with Strong, but we need face tag champions for that. Strong and Stevens vs. the American Wolves would draw great.

Kenny Omega – He’s fun and energetic, but I’m with Ziegler, he’s not good enough to be a top guy yet. I like him at the level he’s at where he can learn and pop the crowd at the same time.

Delirious – I love Del, but there’s only so much he can do with the exact same gimmick in the exact same spot for the past five or six years. I like him better in Chikara.

Kenny King – A future star. RVD level talent if RVD got that it was about more than the flips before 2003.

Rhett Titus – Not a future star, but a good role player. He’s the only successful ROH student ever, so I’d reconsider their wrestling school, honestly.

The Dark City Fight Club – Boy did they lose relevance fast.

Rasche Brown – He’s interesting and I’m not sure why. He’s not good, but he keeps me watching. Good booking or something more? Time will tell.

Chris Daniels – Daniels is exactly what this roster needs. He’s a great, smart worker when he wants to be and can help many wrestlers improve. I’d love a series with Omega to see what Omega can pick up. Kenny King is another good option.

6. Guest Spot – More from Fake Vince

1. Who is the secret email GM on Raw?

Much like the identity of the Undertaker’s attacker, I can’t just give that out. However, if you’ve been paying attention, you might be able to figure this one out. The new GM seems to favour the Nexus rookies a little. Who was the one guy at ringside who hasn’t been attacked? Who is the person reading the emails? I’ll let you figure it out.

2. Why didn’t you fire the Nexus when they attacked you on Raw.

You do realize I sign off on the writing of the show, right? I didn’t fire them because they did what we wrote for them to do. The answer to that question is we didn’t want the audience to think the secret new GM, or whoever has been benefacting the Nexus is me. We know you’re all sick of me being the surprise. But, I mean, are you really asking me a question about the character I play? So what you mean to ask is, in my role as Chairman on the show, why didn’t I fire them? Well, I think the Mr McMahon character is a fan of ruthless aggression. He likes it when new superstars step it up and try to make a name for themselves. He likes it so much that he can’t even really take it personally when he is involved in their attack. Does that make sense? In a way, I, Mr McMahon in character, respect the Nexus for their gumption.

3. Name 5 guys you’d hire from TNA and why.

Easy. The Machine Guns are great and world-travelled. Beer Money is a lot of fun. And I’d bring back Angle, and give him the Foley contract, where he only has to wrestle 4 times a year. We’re all really worried about Kurt.

-Fake Vince.

7. A Modest Response: To Chris Morgado’s Just for Fun

So, in this column, Chris goes over 7 things he finds fun about wrestling currently. Here are my 7.

1) The proliferation of great old stuff on the internet. It’s never been easier to be a fan of wrestling history. If I get sick of the current product, well, I won’t be sick of 90s All Japan, and if I am, I won’t be sick of UWFi, and if I am, well, let’s go get some old AWA and watch Hennig Bockwinkle, and if not, the utterly different USWA will tide me over. There are so many options, it’s great to be a fan.

2) The NXT7 Nexus are unpredictable and fun. They’ve had several different targets and all have been, to some extent at least, unexpected. I don’t know who else they can attack at this point, but it almost doesn’t matter. Raw being interesting and unpredictable for a few weeks is surely worth whatever happens next.

3) Bryan Danielson is back on the indies. I know it’s selfish, but as I fully expect him to be back with the WWE with a hgue push, I’m psyched to go to numerous indies shows and scream like a maniac for Danielson again. And don’t get me started on “the Final Countdown.”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeNVupn_8PU&feature=PlayList&p=D90A10010EC56465&playnext_from=PL&playnext=1&index=31

4) Chikara is fun, logical, and different. I can’t say enough about the little company that could. Everything they do is PG and absolutely gold. Great mat wrestling, great fliers, great brawling, heat for their wrestlers, well-defined 3-dimensional characters. I beg someone to pick them up for cheap Saturday morning programming!

5) I really love second and third generation stars. Generally, they just get the business, from Cody and Dustin Rhodes to Joe Hennig and Ted Dibiase and on, these guys are at least interesting and bring back nostalgia for their fathers, even the ones I like less like Husky Harris and DH Smith. Well played!

6) Jay Lethal is going to be a superstar. Even ROH fans hated his push at first, but Gabe Sapolsky saw a star, and now, Ric Flair is seeing a star. Welcome to the top of the talent heap Jay. You earned it.

7) Just for Fun as a column. TCWNN is always a good read, but just for fun offers a much brighter outlook on wrestling and is a great break from all the negativity that permeates the internet. I hope to see it back weekly!

10, Personal Life/Blog/Whatever – About Us: Chapter 2 (for chapter 1, click here and go to section 10)

Wow, I can’t believe I’m going through with this. Jack would kill me if he knew I was doing this. It’s been so long. Two years can be a long time; a lot has changed. I hope he doesn’t think he can just smile and expect that everything will be okay. That’d be just like him too.

This is so wrong, why am I doing this again? Just to make him happy, shit, not that reasoning again, I won’t fall into that line of thinking again. Besides, that isn’t true. I’m here because I miss him. Its over, its in the past, but he was such a big part of my past how can I help but miss him?

At least I wouldn’t meet him at his place. Or mine. I mean, could you imagine Jack opening the door? “Hey Jack, this is my ex come to pay a visit, yeah the same one who’s name I called out in bed when we first started dating!” Or even better, if he just popped in the window, like he used to. Shit, we live on the fourth floor; Jack would have had a heart attack! What a nightmare.

This is the perfect place, this diner, sure it’s a little run down, but I guess after all this time we’re a bit run down too. Who am I kidding girl? More than run down, more than a little bit. That last fight, that was the worst. Over a shirt I wanted to wear out with friends. So what if it was a little skimpy, he knew I’d never cheat on him. After all that time he had to know that. Couldn’t believe he’d talk to me in that way over something so…so trivial! Couldn’t believe something that minor and stupid finished us. If we broke that easily then we weren’t built to last.

I wonder if he moved on. I hope so. I hope not. I shouldn’t be here and I should have told Jack. That much is for sure. But I’m here and it’s sure too late to tell him now. One other thing’s for sure, I hope he doesn’t pretend nothing happened. Sigh, here goes nothing.
