Manny Pacquiao Moves On To Antonio Margarito

News

Negotiations between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr may or may not have occured. In any event, Manny Pacquiao will be fighting on November 13, Mayweather or not. And it seems that Manny has found an opponent for that date.

According to Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports, Manny Pacquiao will face Antonio Margarito on November 13 in a city to be named later.

The city depends on the clearance of Antonio Margarito to obtain a boxing license in the United States. Margarito’s license was revoked after being caught with illegal handwraps prior to his January 2009 bout with Shane Mosley. If Margarito can get licensed, the fight will be in Las Vegas. If not, the fight will be in Monterrey, Mexico.

Miguel Cotto was also considered for the Pacquiao fight but given how one-sided their first bout was, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum decided it saying it wasn’t intriguing enough to sell in comparison to Margarito.

Margarito was denied a Nevada boxing license earlier this month. The Nevada State Athletic Commission said Margarito first needed to gain licensing in California, the state in which the Mosley fight took place.
