NFL News: Colts President Bill Polian Says 18 Game Schedule Is Set To Happen

News

The owners are set to expand the NFL from a 16 to an 18 game schedule.

During a weekly radio show, Poliani said that the debate over expanding the schedule is done from the owners side.

“I think that the owners, and principally the commissioner, have decided that it’s the way to go, and so the debate, such as it was, is over,” Polian said. “I’ve heard recently, and I’m sorry that this didn’t get more coverage earlier, some really, really interesting commentary on it.

While the owners are sold on the new schedule, any change to the schedule needs to be agreed to by collective bargaining with the players, something that was already looking like a tough task to get done before the March deadline.

One of Polian’s star players voiced his concerns over the 18 game schedule if it meant cutting back on offseason workouts. Peyton Manning argued that OTAs is where Manning is able to develop a raport with the guys lower on the depth chart which helps the Colts when they need a player like Blair White to fill in for Pierre Garcon.
