Amir Khan To Not Face Lamont Peterson, May Face European Champion Instead

News

Talking to BBC Radio Five Live, WBA Light Welterweight Champion Amir Khan confirmed that he will not face Lamont Peterson on April 16th in Eng;and’s Manchester Evening News Arena due to a dispute over how much Peterson would recieve. Instead he may face unbeaten European Champion Paul McCloskey after the Irishman signalled he was eager to face the young British world champion. Khan signalled he was hopeful a deal could be concluded in a matter of days. While the commercial potential in the UK of such a fight is obvious, one would think that both HBO and Golden Boy would rather see Khan build on his victories over Paulie Malignaggi and Marcos Maidana by facing a fighter with more name recognition in the USA. Alternatively the possibility of a rematch with the only man to have ever defeated Khan, Brendis Prescott, has been widely mooted.
