Voltron Legendary Defender Season 8, The Final Season, Gets Release Date and Teaser Trailer [Video].

Syfy reports:

As the Paladins prepare to form Voltron for the final time, the cast and crew set the Lions down at NYCC to look back on the series and talk about the upcoming eighth season of Voltron: Legendary Defender.

Before the fun began, executive producers Joaquim Dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery discussed the fans’ emotional reactions to the Shiro/Adam storyline (in which Shiro’s ex-boyfriend was killed by the Galra) from Season 7. “We’ve heard you,” said Montgomery, “While we can’t go back and change what happened, this has stirred discussion about meaningful representation, and what it means for the future.” That got a great response from the NYCC crowd.

The discussion then turned into a retrospective of Season 7. Dos Santos talked about the decision to spend multiple episodes on Earth before the Paladins arrived. “There was a certain level of worry,” he said, “will we be able to spend this amount of time without Voltron punching something?” Going with their gut worked out because those two episodes were among the best of the season.

Josh Keaton (Shiro) talked about how Atlas’ transformation was a big moment for Shiro. “I was very happy that after everyone didn’t believe him about Voltron, that when the time came, they looked to him for leadership.”

Story editor Josh Hamilton brought up how Season 7 was a chance for redemption for Allura, saying, “She failed to save her home planet, so this was her chance to save Earth.”

The panel then looked back at the entire series, with the cast, which also included Kimberly Brooks (Allura), Bex Taylor-Klaus (Pidge), and Jeremy Shada (Lance) showing clips of their characters’ favorite defining moments. Taylor-Klaus has an extra special connection with Pidge. “I’ve always wanted to play a cartoon character. Not only am I playing a cartoon character, but a strong female warrior.” She went on to say that Pidge gives her inspiration on the person she wants to be in real life.

After a few more clips, including a “blooper reel” of sorts, the panel closed out with both the cast and creators thanking the fans for all their support over the last four years. Shada even pointed out that there were more people in the audience dressed in cosplay then people who weren’t. That wasn’t much of an exaggeration.

A trailer for Season 8 was then shown, previewing the final battle between the Paladins and the Galra. Taylor-Klaus, in a non-spoilery fashion, let fans know she was “shocked” when she first read the scripts for the season. If the excitement shown by the fans in the Manhattan center is any indication, then you will be in for a treat when all episodes of Voltron: Legendary Defender’s final season debut on Netflix on Dec. 14.

The end begins on December 14, 2018.
