The beauty of the direct to DVD market these days is that the sort of mediocre action films that would’ve came and went from theaters quickly have now gone completely direct to video. Many moons ago you could find an audience, and potentially profitability, with a small enough budget.
Those days are long over and now something like River Runs Red, with a pretty good cast and a solid concept, winds up direct to video for any number of reasons. Mainly they’re bad…. But many factors can contribute to that.
Taye Diggs is a judge whose son is killed by two corrupt cops (Luke Hemsworth, Gianni Capaldi). When they’re cleared, it’s up to him and George Lopez to exact their own justice.
This is a perfectly acceptable action film, nothing more, as this is as generic a revenge thriller as you can get.
