CBS is bringing its comedy about pregnancy, Accidentally on Purpose, closer to a full term — but not quite all the way there.
The network has ordered five additional episodes of the series, which stars Jenna Elfman as a San Francisco movie critic whose one-night stand with a younger guy (Jon Foster) results in her getting pregnant, him moving in and mismatched-couple comedy. That brings the show’s total to 18 for the season.
While that’s short of the standard 22-episode order for a full season, it does represent some vote of confidence in the show. Accidentally on Purpose is the least-watched show in CBS’ Monday comedy block, but it has been a fairly steady performer so far this season.
The not-quite-full season for Accidentally could also allow room for Rules of Engagement, which is once again due to join the CBS schedule at midseason.
