At today’s press conference for Skyfall the twenty third 007 movie, much information was gleaned from producer Michael G. Wilson and director Sam Mendes.
When Sam Mendes first signed on to direct the James Bond feature, many suspected that we would see a toned down James Bond. Not hardly. “There will be plenty of surprises,” Mendes promised. “The action needs to be balanced with the drama.” Mendes also offered these thoughts about the possibility of directing another Bond feature: “if I still feel that it’s as much fun in six months’ time, then the answer is yes.”
In Skyfall, Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her; MI6 comes under attack, and Bond must track down and destroy the threat. With Javier Bardem cast as the heavy against Daniel Craig’s Bond there’s speculation that he would be playing Blofeld, as was originally hinted by screenwriter John Logan. Sam Mendes remained coy on the topic at the presser.
Production will commence Monday on Skyfall and will be mostly shot around Whitehall, London, plus Scotland, Istanbul and China.
As far as who the Bond girl will be? That would be French actress and model Bérénice Marlohe, playing a character named Severine. Other cast members confirmed include Albert Finney, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw and Naomie Harris, playing a secret agent named Eve.
Sony will release Skyfall in North America on November 9, 2012.
