No longer a slave to the world of Image Comics, Neil Gaiman’s creation Angela has entered the Marvel Universe and the Guardians of the Galaxy have already met her in battle. Captured by the Guardians, she remains locked up on the Guardian’s ship looked after by Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and Iron Man. But who exactly is this mystery woman?
That’s what the Guardians want to know. Not knowing what to make of the Guardians Angela remains silent at first but quickly opens up on where she’s from. Heaven, or Heven as it’s called here, is the place and the beautiful angel has been trained to be one hell of a hunter. One second Angela was there and the next she was not.
She found herself looking at Earth which is now where the angel wants to go visit. Star-Lord, who also knows about the event that has seemingly warped time and space and brought Angela into this dimension, decides if Angela wants to visit Earth who are the Guardians to stop her? Star-Lord lets her go though he and Iron Man decide to follow her just to make sure that letting her go wasn’t the wrong thing to do.
Guardians of the Galaxy #7 isn’t an action packed issue full of non-stop fighting. It serves its purpose in finally delving deeper into Angela and giving her some much needed backstory. This is important because we need to know her motivation. This isn’t the same character we’ve read over in Spawn. Angela may not be a new character but her intro into the Marvel Universe is going slow and smooth. She’s already a fan favorite – we just need to know what she’s all about.
Bendis does a great job in writing this and the book also credits Neil Gaiman as a consultant. Not a bad combination if you ask me. Guardians of the Galaxy continues to be one of the best books on the market and this issue completely drew me into Angela and what she’s all about. I’m interested in her character which I honestly haven’t been interested in for years. Call this book completely captivating for I am already for the next issue to see where the Angela storyline continues to.
