DC Comics and Detective Comics #1039 Spoilers and Review follows.
A Vile…
…Batman?!
The book opens with…
…villain Hue Vile giving readers a glimpse of mutant origin.
In modern day, Oracle realizes Vile is the one poisoning and taking control of his victims and…
…she sets Huntress on his path.
Vile does the same to Huntress, but she manages to stab him to release his hold, but it’s too late.
At the same time, Mr. Worth’s Penguin henchmen have been defeated by Batman as has the super strong rich Gothamite.
Huntress, attempting to fight off Vile’s control, lets Batman know how to defeat her and him.
The book ends with Mayor Nakano – and readers – being briefed on all this tied up as…
…Bruce Wayne is ready to turn himself in as he’s wanted for a murder (he didn’t commit); tough to have an alibi when that alibi is being Batman and its a secret.
The back-up story focuses on Hue Vile and…
…how and why he returns to Gotham City.
The Pulse:
While the core Batman series seems to get most of the attention in hype and fan circles, Detective Comics has been a steady and compelling read on story and art. New villain Vile is macabre and Bruce Wayne being ensnared in the murder of Sarah Worth is intriguing. Art was solid on both main and back-up stories. 8 out of 10.
