While I may have been able to catch 27 movies in a five-and-a-half day span at the South by Southwest Film Festival last week, one of the features I missed seeing was the comedy Attack the Block, exec. produced by Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim). However, Robert Saucedo did and he called it a “pitch-perfect ’80s throwback.” Read his full review here.
Taking elements from Signs, Assault on Precinct 13 and The Monster Squad Joe Cornish‘s Attack the Block pairs relative unknowns with some established U.K. stars like Jodie Whittaker and Nick Frost. The sci-fi comedy centers on a gang of teens who fighting an alien invasion in their hood. But don’t jump to conclusions and think this is Battle: U.K.. Attack the Block aims to deliver both in terms of action and laughs.
/Film has debuted the U.K. quad poster for the film that does an amicable job of getting the movie’s plot and tone across. With a tag line that reads “Inner City vs. Outer Space” it’s pretty safe to assume that there will be Aliens N the Hood.
Attack the Block opens in the U.K. on May 13th but does not yet have U.S. distribution. One of the key factors is probably the thick English brogue and lack of subtitles.
